Posted - 04/16/2009 : 00:38:26 Car numbers and dial-ins cannot be seen at Byron until they are doing the forward/backward/forward dance to get into the burnout box. There is a slight delay between classes, but the next pair is indeed running in the water. The tower explanation at BIR makes sense.
As for Byron safety, I have broke while crossing the finish line and had to do the U-turn in the extra shutdown area and have never had cars coming at me. Their shutdown area is shorter than average which does help to speed things up, and the downhill/uphill nature of the track and shutdown also help give a very clear view of what is going on in the shutdown area.

Posted - 04/16/2009 : 00:15:46 Classes cant' be switched in computer until last car crosses finish line and car numbers and dials can not be entered until classes switched. Correct me if I'm wrong because I have only been there once but I think the tower can see car numbers/dials in the box at Byron because of the tower location. Once the cars get to the box at BIR you can not see them. That not saying that the program can't be sped up and we will be working on that this year.
Unfortunately those with the least amount of common sense are unaware of their lack of it |

Posted - 04/15/2009 : 11:14:53 Byron has a Compulink system and when the final pair of one class is staged, the first pair of the following class is in the burnout box ready to go.

Posted - 04/14/2009 : 10:36:26 Yep,Byron has looked like the Crosstown.Got to admit tho,BIR has always had a safty first mind set. They don't run'em on top of one another. And useing all of the shut down.... some cars may be slow but they are way heavy.
Take that crap out'a the car and drive it. |

Posted - 04/13/2009 : 23:26:15 I would bet Byron runs more cars per hour or throughout the day than any other track around here including Grove Creek. As for the BIR shutdown, I see more then a few cars unnecessarily take the last turn off which may add to an already slow program.

Posted - 04/13/2009 : 23:06:44 BIR also has over twice as much shutdown before you can get off the track...... |

Posted - 04/13/2009 : 16:29:14 I would say that Rock Falls is the fastest track around in the number of pairs sent down per minute besides obviously Grove Creek because it's 1/8 mile. Brainerd is probably one of the slowest because they have 15 different classes where Rock Falls has 6 and it takes time to change over the classes in the computer. Rock Falls also has only two staging guys where Brainerd has 6-7? A lot of confusion can be created because everyone thinks a different class should be running. |

Posted - 04/11/2009 : 10:55:08 There will be super classes, just not like they were last year. Most tracks don't run the Super Classes as a regular part of their bracket program.
We posted the basic combined class information on our website when it launched last week. We have also talked to many of the drivers in those classes to get their input. It’s no secret that attendance in the Super Class categories has fallen off in recent years. Just 7 years ago we had upwards of 50 Super Comp racers at every event, last year we had as few as 13. The other Super Classes have been falling off as well and that left us with 3 choices:
• Drop the 4 Super Classes all together. • Have one or two race weekends as Super Class weekends where we run all 4 Super classes as a special race. • Combine the 3 index Super Classes into one Super Shootout type format and move the Stock/Super Stock program to Saturday.
We chose the last option first. If in 2009 the attendance falls off more, especially in the Stock/Super Stock class, then we will chose option number two and only have those classes on a few select weekends.
The cars are out there, at our May Divisional event we had 89 Stock/Super Stock entrants, over 50 Super Comp cars and almost 70 Super Gassers but only a fraction of them showed up for the bracket events. The payout has been improved this year in an attempt to get the cars here but if attendance stays down we will have to look at other options for next season.
Moving the program faster is a side benefit of combining the classes, we’d rather have the extra 100+ cars going down the track. It’s not just the Super Classes that are being looked at, for 2010 we are dropping one of the bike classes for the same reason, lack of attendance. Currently the racers in Bike 1 can enter Super Pro (Bracket 1) and race with the cars; many do already because the payout is higher (because there are more entrants). For 2010 we will be dropping the Bike 1 class and the bikes using delay boxes will be racing in racing in Super Pro. That will leave us with one Money Bike class and one Trophy Bike class.
Having said this, if attendance in the affected classes goes up this year, that may change what happens next year, only time will tell.

Posted - 04/10/2009 : 11:49:08 Oh no, you'll have to bring your cars to a bracket event and enter one in a bracket race? The horror!
I was asking Bill if there would be CrossTalk for this class, and he told me he would like to but Compulink doesn't have that available yet for a Pro tree. He also told me that the cars will be grouped by traditional class as long into the race as possible.

Posted - 04/10/2009 : 09:47:05 The way I read it is they are going to run it like the D-5 super shootout. Whatever class your car falls into is the tree you will have. So, super street gets .500 pro tree and super gas/super comp get .400 pro tree. My thinking is they did this to speed up the program a bit and to make sure they had a decent car count. Now will people run it because it's this way, only time will tell, eh? |
