Posted - 04/18/2009 : 13:27:20 On the new fan guide it says that there's a bar and grill where the 300 club is. Does this mean literally there's a bar and a grill (because there is)or is this a restaurant now? |

Posted - 04/22/2009 : 13:10:45 It might not draw any spectators but would be a way that racers can increase their winning purse and the track can make a few bucks also. Racers have exclusive rights to put money on themselves until 30 minutes before cars go down the track. Once inside 30 minutes you can put your $5 or $10 on anybody. Each racer can be "bought" only once and the person holding the racer to go furthest in the race wins half the pot; the other half goes to the track. It would only work if a decent number of racers do it.

Posted - 04/22/2009 : 11:26:08 Haha! Right... I'm sure a betting window would draw more fans to bracket races. Instead of "honey, I'm going to the casino" it's "honey, I'm going to the drag strip." I think the second one sounds a lot better. |

Posted - 04/22/2009 : 09:53:53 I think the most spectators I have ever seen at a bracket-only event was at Great Lakes Dragaway. There was plenty of gambling going on in the stands there, and a lot of guys happily waving their winnings as I came up the return road after the final.
The bar running a 50-50 Calcutta might not be a bad idea, but there would be a dangerous stampede of people looking to take Andy Schmall off the board when they open in the AM.

Posted - 04/21/2009 : 23:04:49 It does sound pretty good. All we need now is closed-circuit TV with cameras on the starting line and the stripe, a-la Atco Raceway.
Maybe just a couple screens displaying live (delayed 20 seconds or so) timing info?
As cool as that all sounds, there probably wouldn't be many people in there while racing is going on.

Posted - 04/21/2009 : 09:27:50 The restaurant option. We are building a full service kitchen and a new horseshoe shaped bar. You will be able to sit inside, out of the wind and weather, while eating breakfast and watching the news. Or outside on the patio if the weather is nice. They plan to be open early for breakfast and stay open throughout the day. The menu will be expanded as well.
