WOW...where to start?!?!?
I got to Grove on Saturday after the 1st time trial session had started, since I was at Interstate testing the Super Stocker in the AM...Made the 2nd time trial with my normal set up and spun pretty hard. Nice thing was, when I was in line the "staging guy" came up to me and told me before hand since I missed my 1st time trial I could get a 2nd if I wanted to jump in at the end of the Bracket 1 group. Made some adjustments to air pressure and launch RPM which helped. The track was 'green' on Saturday, but was coming around.
Sunday was A LOT better for traction! The Grove crew worked their tails off all weekend. The track is ultra smooth!!! The longer shut down area is fantastic!
I personally GOT SCHMALLED a bunch this weekend. Andy Schmall was on a tear, and so was Steve Brings (in Bracket II)---I'm not positive on the other classes.
I had a chance to speak with Rick Austin on Sunday during the event...the September 20th Event IS going to be $1,000 GUARANTEED to win, September 21st is the NHRA King of the Track--regular track payout. Just as posted on the Grove Creek web page.
And the real nice thing about Grove Creek---they STILL PAY OUT at the end of the day!!!

| Travis You pretty well hit it. I only got to go on Sunday but boy was that impressive. The track crew did the same great job they always do and now they have a track that is equally that good. I heard many comments from people who were there on Sat. about how the track really started to come in on Sunday. One of the things that impressed me was how much other work was done besides the track. The pits were greatly expanded with the circle track being gone. They put a new roof on the concession building. And really did a nice job on the restrooms. This is truly a first class track in every and it's going to be a lot of fun racing there. |

Now if they could only come up with something to keep the dust down...but, that is a small issue that plagues several tracks, not only the Creek.
FANTASTIC job Rick and Staff!!! Big Ron working Tech/Security and whatever else he wants...NO Secruity issues all weekend that I am aware of---so, he must have done a good job.
Great concession food as well---I had a couple Creek Taco's, Pizza, Creek Dogs and ICE CREAM over the weekend---cheap $$$ too!!!
Look forward to getting an MDRA event there in 2009! Hopefully, a USA Stock/Super Stock combo as well!!! Perhaps even an NHRA National Open in the future???
Next Event August 16th (night race) & 17th. $1,000 guaranteed on Sunday + Jr Dragster Challenge!!!
BTW---SWEET new car/paint Tim!

Thank you Travis. A lot of hard work by some of the best friends a guy could ever have made it possible. The car ran great all weekend. And I continue to need more seat time.
BTW-- Good luck in Cordova. |
