Back in the day...BIR/Champion Auto Stores Contingency use to put on a 'special' race towards the end of the year. You had to pay to enter the points program back then. If you signed up, every event you entered at BIR your name went into the drawing. If I recall correctly the drawing was at the August pts. race and was done after a huge racers BBQ put on by the track and staff. It was an "all run" FREE entry race. I believe it paid a few thousand to win.

It was a lot of fun.

I think it was $1500 to win. They drew 64 names from all classes. The drawing and the race were both fun. My dad R/U to Craig Leiberg in one of the final few shootouts.

I know that the money was put up for a few seasons by Shorewood RV, and at least once they had some of their salesmen there to display some motorhomes, pull the racers names, and watch the race.

Will BIR be doing the ETI Tech inspections again in '09??? IF so, can you post some dates you may be doing those outside the track...IE. MDRA car show, perhaps at Joe Zwilling's Fat Joe's Racecraft when Bomgardner comes up to tag a bunch of cars in March?

Any Pay Out info?

Only bad race date I can see is the Sept 11-13 event. Which is the same weekend at the LODRS Event at Tri-State. June 19-21 is the Bandimere LODRS Event as well, but not many regulars from BIR hit that one.

Good start BIR...

Hi Travis,

Yes, I knew about both of those conflicts when we did the schedule. The only other option was to NOT have a race in September and we didn’t want to do that. I did run this by a few racers first, and with us only counting six (6) of seven (7) races and no penalty for not attending all events they thought it was an acceptable deal. For the past couple of years our ET Finals racers had to go to other tracks to prepare for the race, now they can do it here.

As far as ETI’s go, Yes! We will do those wherever and whenever we can. We’ve done them a few evenings at the track but with mixed results and poor turnout. This year we hope to do them on Thursday and Friday nights but I need a better racer turnout to keep doing them “after hours”. Despite the poor weather conditions at the 2008 MDRA Car Show, we inspected a bunch of cars and had a blast. We’ll be back if you’ll have us.

No payout info yet but Pat and the team are working on it. When it’s done there should be no doubt what people are racing for. Personally I like the S/SS-USA deal where they throw an extra $1000 or $1,500 in the pot. If we can get enough businesses to do that we’ll have a “presented by” for all the money classes at every race. Imagine that, racing for $2,300+ to win in Super Pro or Pro, that would be kick a$$! If you know of a business that wants to get racers attention, let me know. We go to print in late January and would love to give any class supporter some ink in our fan guide as well as on our schedules and new look web site.
On a side note, I’d like to publicly thank Ron Zenzen for being the MC at our 2008 banquet. He did a hell of a job.
Phil Abramson is our 2008 Crew Person of the Year. Anyone that has had any contact with Phil knows that this was way overdue.
Kevin Rolph received our 2008 Joe Angelo Sportsman of the Year award.
Kayla Lundberg was our 2008 Rookie of the Year.

Thanks for the space,

Bill Johnson

I'd hate to bring this up again, but the best way to raise the payout without the hassle of getting sponsors is to have buybacks.

June 5 - 7
June 19 - 21
July 24 - 26

Sorry to doubt you Dave. I just wanted to verify before I start arranging my schedule. I am looking forward to another great season at BIR!!!

Nooooooo!!! IF there is a redeeming quality to MN bracket racing, it is the lack of buybacks! This is coming from a guy that has won a $5K race off a buyback. They are bad for the sport in general. If you want all the cars in the field to go down the track twice, add a Sunday time run instead. That truly helps the "little bucks" guy where buybacks do the opposite.
