Two well deserved "Hall of Fame Inductees" ! I remember my dad racing both of these guys many times. Most memorable moments were one time right before Walt retired they were racing at Cedar Falls , in the rain , with both cars sliding sideways all the way down the track and Walt stated "Good Run" - A true sportsman ! Most memorable time with John Robinson was when he was leading Bracket 2 at Rock Falls probably in the 80's sometime and John was at the front of the line and my dad was at the back of the line. Last race of the season and the championship was on the line. My dad thought he would call him out not once but twice. As we all know my dad likes to stir things up a bit. The entire class heard this fun and the rivalry continued. As we all know John never backed down from a race against anyone so he called him to the front of the line. He actually said "Get your ass up here". The race was on with everyone watching. Rock Falls Tower and staging crew even got involved so they could race each other. John lost that round and the championship. I don't think he talked to us for over a year and i didn't blame him. The rivalry always went back and forth and produced honorable memories. Point being great drivers have great rivalries and for that reason they stand to be constantly challenged without fear of losing. John has won more races then any driver i know of. He once stated he has won everything he had ever dreamed except the ET finals. Years later he made it to that final , as I watched , and I was so hoping and praying he would win that honor because he deserves it but came up just short. No matter because in my eyes he will always be an icon and a true champion of our sport. That to me Ladies and gentleman is why he is your 2009 Hall of Fame inductee. Proud to have raced with both of these drivers and will always cherish those track side show downs.
