Did anyone attending the Lucas Oil Race this weekend notice the bottleneck of the ticket scanning system? What a waste of time, on saturday and friday night to get out of the track it took us about 6-7 mins just to get through the line, then there was only one front gate worker with the scanner..if anyone could answer this i would love to hear it, what is even the point of scanning the tickets every time in and out? If this same system is planned for the Powerade race, yikes!
Also one thing noticed, what is the need for the white trucks patroling the pit areas, also other track related vehicles going crawling through the pit areas blocking race cars from coming into their pits? In times like this with gas approaching $4 a gallon?? just some thoughts, anyone else??

I would have to agree with you Brian---it was a cluster f*@k with the ticket scanning. And it NEVER happened the same way twice in the 4-days I was there. That system will NEVER work at the Nationals without a riot on your hands.

P.S. Thanks for letting me win 2nd round of Super Stock!!! I used my lucky gypsy tears on ya.

See ya in Staging!!!

The ticket scanning was just a dry run getting all the bugs out.The point to this is that way people are not scalping them and then people get in without paying, which is theft. With the WHITE trucks driving around as you know this is for safety. We had a few major issues in which case we needed them out and about. If they were blocking pit stalls is wasnt for more than a few mins. During the day we only had 1 truck out most of the time. And just in case everyone forgot it is only 10 mph anywhere on the track grounds and this means race cars as well. We could start to enforce this a lot more if need be with race cars but we havent. Guess we will start! We had 6 people almost hit by speeding cars this past weekend and this can not happen.

Ticket scanning needs more work then! Because in 4-days you still couldn't get it figured out.

Ticket scalping...that's a new one. If I buy 4 Crew passes, and one of my regular Crew members can't attend for one day (for whatever reason) and I choose to give it to another friend so they can help me out---what's wrong with that? Ticket scalping (as in selling tickets for more that face-value) is legal in Mn.

Major issues??? I'd like to hear an example from this past weekend.

Here is what you must remember as Security driving those White Trucks. There is pretty much ALWAYS been an unwritten rule that RACE CARS have the right of way when coming back from making a run. Our cars are often hot, low on fuel, low on charge and at times we are being told to round-robbin. Not to mention---race cars have a Tach---not a working speedometer! Further more---a lot of times we are coasting---shut off and the spectators DO NOT watch out for us. If as Security you want to do a 'job' for the racers, keep the return roads clear of foot traffic and vehicles parked on the main roads.

Security should only be required in an emergency case. We racers can pretty much police ourselves. I've raced in 12 states, and NEVER have I had any issues with security more than I've had at my 'home track' BIR.

yea, what Travis said! I think Brainerd has more "security" at a bracket race than a NHRA National event has (except Brainerd of course). Ticket scanning to prevent theft? How many people that aren't racers actually show up to an event that has not been promoted at all?

I'll be at Cedar Falls this weekend where I can drive 11 mph without going to jail!

I bet if BIR were to really take a hard look at the books, when the "Security" (White Truck Bregade)started you would see an attendance drop. Who wants to be harrased and hassled during a fun weekend. Most people come to a race track to socialize, blow off a little steam and show off their hot rods.

And truth be told---IF, I had an issue that would require 'security' I would place a call to the Crow Wing Co Sherrif Dept. first.

The point Brian Zenzen was trying to make is that why is there a need for Security to be driving around in trucks with gas at $4 per/gallon. It would be much more cost effective for the Security Staff to patrol on golf carts or mini-bikes. Heck, that would even make less congestion in the pits and return roads.

We can not tell you much more than small details but, We had 2 medicals and 2 accidents that NHRA requested to respond to. And for one you are right about the racers taking care of them selves, for the most part. But we had many fans hear watching this race also. I also do move over and let the race cars past when i can but unwritten rules are just that and the written ones over take them. In a post you did some time back you told people "THAT THE SPEED LIMIT FOR ALL VEHICLE IS TEN OR SLOWER" And all means all, race cars included. You also have to remember that the fans have the right to be safe and a speeding race car is not safe in the tight area of the pits or turn 10. Anyone can jump out from behind a trailer or car. And if you hit someone how would you feel or if someone hit someone you know . Then the story would be a lot different. We did have people of golf carts this weekend also. And for the part of calling the S.O. they would come out here and talk with us first then if we needed the help they would come and see what they could do. We were in the trucks for parking of racers and also to go to the other issues we had. We also only have 3 guards here for brackets. One at the gate, one for patroling and one for giving breaks. Its new times and new changes for us all. We could keep going with this all day and get no where so with that I am here to make sure one and all are safe when they come here. See you at the next bracket.

Russ...I agree, we (Racers) need to work together with Security/Staff perhaps better than we have. I'm just telling you as a racer what I would rather see being done with Security. The speed limit in the pits is a minor issue. I see more kids under 16 driving golf carts, riding mini-bikes with more than 2 passengers, skate boards and bikes in the pits and staging lanes---which create some of the hazards you are talking about.

As for hitting someone---of course I would feel horrible if it happened. I'm pretty darn careful when I drive. But if you stop to think about an 'actual' 10MPH speed limit---most race cars at an idle, in low gear will go faster than 10MPH. Keep folks out of the main travel ways...issue pretty much goes away.
There is a 'waiver' that is signed at the gate...not sure how valid it actually would be in a court being it isn't notarised, but there is a waiver for on-track issues should an accident occur.

Thanks Travis for the same thoughts that I have about working with the racers. I do know about 90% of you guys and would not want to see ANYTHING happen to anyone. I am trying to get people to understand that the under 16 driving and skateboards are a big issue but again we are trying. I am always willing to get other peoples ideas on what they think could be done to make things safer for us all. See ya in a few weeks.

I've said this before and I'll say it again...I think it would be in the best interest of BIR to call a "Driver's Meeting" one Saturday to get issues out on the table, cleared up and concise.

I'm just going to add that I don't think there is another race track around that has security at their bracket races. And there are no major problems. I think that "security" is an issue that should be put to the side until an efficient program is in place.
