Wow the picture of today of Steve Dooley is from BIR. I still have the old Crondex timing system shown but have never seen a picture of it in use!
Cool. |

They sure look like Pontiac heads to me. See how the exhaust runners on the heads slope down with the bolt between the siameesd runners. Are you sure Buick Davey ?

| It's a 430 Buick motor, he bought the car from Roger Flint, and had Don Ness do the suspension on it. Notice the leather gloves and the leather jacket? The starting line was back farther then. I have a similar picture of my car from June of 1981 at the Crown Auto funny car championships, by Carol Stiemer. Russ |

I actually grew up at the track , with my father, racing with the Steve Dooley Family. As Russ stated it was Buick powered and also had a clear distributor cap so at night it looked quit illuminating for everyone to see. Steve was an excellent racer and very tough to beat. We went to a lot of high dollar races and he was always going rounds with the folk boys as well as Sheldon Gecker. Down in Byron back when the Mn. Boys would take on the Byron Boys after the Sat. main event. Your 10 best racers from each state - 1 round and whatever state lost the most out of that 10 would have to buy the kegs for the party afterwards. Anyone else remember this ? I remember Dave Young writing "MN" on our car. That was a long time ago but not forgotten.

Any body have any pictures of (a Camaro--I believe) called "Rush Hour".....A wagon called "Posion Ivy" and an old picture of a Mopar called "Minnesota Green." Those were the first cars I can recall when my Dad started taking me to the races in the mid-70's

The "Rush Hour" Camaro was Bill Warzeka's but I can't say I have a picture of it. On the back of the car was painted, "Who's Next?" Always liked that.
My earlier memories were a bunch of cars that said "Lawson Racing" on them. I also remember a reddish Mopar (I think) with a military guy and dollar bills painted on it called "Major Expense."

We also Raced with Mike Morton and his partner Carl ( Nova ) Right around the time delay boxes first came out. and Bill Warzeka's "Rush Hour" 69 Camaro as well. Mike and Bill were good friends. My sister dated one of the Lawson boys and "Major Expense" I think it was a guy named Scott Ebner - Ebner Family racing. Not sure on the spelling of that last name. It was 1969 Super Bee. How could I not remember that ? Talk about a flash back. Nice.

Mike Morton's partner Carl Z lives right across the street from John Simon's appliance store. My dad almost bought the "It's Always Something..." Nova at one time. It then was traded to Michael Young for a tube-chassis Beretta that they never finished and never raced again. That Beretta ended up being Rob Eastman's maroon car. I think that is how it worked. Either that or Eastman traded his Chevelle to Michael for the Beretta. But it was Morton and Carl's at some point.
Good memories!

Kind of like the "Good 'ol Days" of PRO Wresteling....Crusher, Vern Gagne, Baron Von Rashkie, Buck "Rock-n-Roll" Zumhoff, Nick Bockwinkel...etc.
Of course, I remember seeing Monkey's Toy, 'Lil Duster, Allen James....back in those days too--------and I've had a chance to race them. And how can I forget Gus Pflipich's Modified Vette----that 5-speed would yank the wheels still in 3rd!!!
Speaking of Monkey's.........anyone heard from Mr. Robinson lately? And that Monkey Shacker car---what happened to that car? As well, the Blue Angel........I haven't seen that car in years.
And "jerry"....where is he.....

I have a picture of Gus's Vette on my home PC. I found it when looking at some pics from the US Nationals in the 70's.
I haven't seen the Blue Angel in awhile, but there is a reminder of it in the form of a small dent in the Nova's bumper from where he backed into it in the pits a few years ago!
