Scott,I'm not sure I under stand the question. You and I both race there. Some of the old timers { sorry if I offended anyone} go where they have always gone and don't change much from year to year. With so little new blood in the system it's hard to keep upping the car counts. I know I don't race at RFR or CFR enough for me but I only have so much time. I haven't found too many people who have given the place a chance that don't want to come back. That's just my 2 cents worth. Thanks Tim

That is a question Rick asked me. So I thought I would ask others that dont race out at the Creek.

A lot of people don't like the pit area. It's dusty and dirty, if you don't have a reserved spot, the rest of the pits is dirty. Most everyone complains about the payout. Round money is terrible, most every other track pays better from round money all the way to the win. The "night races" are more like afternoon races, at the hottest part of the day - not as much fun. The starting line traction is questionable most days. That's what I here people saying |

OK now you made me look. RFR and CFR payouts on the website, could not find on GC site. Shane you will always have more traction problems than me. I think it's because you have a bigger wallet. Seriously, That could have been a green track issue but by now those days should be long gone. Absolutely right on the nite races. Look at the other side of the track, Hardly ever anybody there. You want to have a nite race then promote it as a nite race and have it at nite. I will continue to race there but the observations in this thread are very accurate. I know both Scott and Shane well enough to know that this is not just an excuse to whine but if Rick wants to ask questions like this he should be considerate enough to listen to the answers. By the way now I understand the question.

My only real complaint about the NEW Grove Creek is the dusty pits/parking (same as before). Not that it has to be 100% paved....some nice thick, well kept grass is just fine in the pits. Race engines don't like dust/dirt.
I've always had a good time when I've been at the Grove. And am looking forward to the MDRA event in a few weeks.
See ya in Staging!!!

What about the new timing system is that still on backorder. Would be nice to generate ladders for eliminations & have cross talk. I know there are some mdra racers not excited about going to the creek in july.

Why not to race at Grove Creek:
1.) It has been made pretty clear over the years that Rick doesn't want a lot of cars to show up at his track. It seems that he is always angry when MDRA brings his biggest car count of the year.
2.) The biggest reason we don't show up is because of the thread "Grove Creek Cancellation Pattern." Who wants to drive all the way to a race track and have the race canceled for no reason.
3.) Pit Area. Yes, they are pretty dusty and dirty but most of all there isn't any room for bigger rigs to park.
4.) Timing system. There have been times where we get weird times or something screws up within the timing system.
5.) Payout. The track is run the same way Rock Falls was before they made their bracket races combo races and raised the 3rd round payout but it is the worst payout in Minnesota besides Interstate. http://www.grovecreek.com/et_series.htm
6.) The staging lanes are really small. Every time we have raced at Grove Creek, there is a pile up at the back of staging that trails down the road because there is no where for all the cars to go.
Reasons to race at Grove Creek:
1.) The track is located very close to the Twin Cities, and St. Cloud.
2.) It is the only 1/8 mile track around and I personally think that it's fun to race 1/8 mile once and a while.
3.) 2 day races. This is the biggest reason to go to the track. Use the same amount of fuel to get there but race an extra day.
4.) Flat track!!! I have never had a traction problem here, and unlike Rock Falls, the burnout boxes have always been swept and had a good amount of water.
This track has the possibility to be the "go to" track for Minnesota Racers. It has the potential to draw a large amount of fans and racers from the Twin Cities and St. Cloud but right now the track can't handle that many people. The pit area needs to be flattened out and totally re-designed. Currently, there are 3 or 4 roads that all lead to the same place and there isn't enough flat room in between them to park a motorhome and trailer.

Im looking forward to checking out the track at this years MDRA race. When a track owner dedicates that much time and money into the facility I wish him the best as far as drawing car counts. I saw the renovation pictures from last year and they were very impressive. Im hoping for a great 2-day race including a true night race in the dark on Sat. night during the MDRA weekend. I guess my opinion will be based on that weekend alone. We cant support every track so I feel people will go where they feel most comfortable. We always venture off to each track at least once or twice a year but overall if your running for points most people can only afford going to their one favorite local track.

Talk about the return road to staging. Last sat. I counted 4 kids age 6-10 riding bicycles during eliminations up & down the road. I sure would hate to witness a kid geting run over. There has been so many close calls. It is bound to happen.

One thing my crew brought up last night when talking about this thread is the lack of SPEAKERS (and volume)to here your call to the lanes. The radio station isn't that clear either...

They need to stop playing music through the PA. If he's not talking I would rather hear nothing than music blasting.

In 1994 I drove my chevelle on the highway each points race in trophy at Grove Creek.I enjoy racing at the Creek and I am also looking forward to getting back to the Creek and racing. As others have said I am involved in points races at other tracks and it keeps me busy keeping up with them for now.

We were there this last week-end and the only real complaint is the dust and dirt in the pits, the car is filthy.
